I remember the release of master of puppets but that was when I was in grade school.
And yes, Metallica did die with Cliff Burton.

I find myself listening to stuff like Within Temptation and Nightwish a lot lately. Need to hear more Epica though, where's a good place to start? I don't do the digital thing, I like having a physical disc around.

I would also recommend Leaves Eyes, Look up "My Destiny" on youtube, I cannot easily link it from my phone.

I know of Leaves' Eyes, I had a copy of Lovelorn floating around for ages. Learned about them after hearing Liv's vocals on Nymphetamine, as I assume most people did.

Other bands that I tend to keep in rotation are.
Delain, Xandria, Lacuna Coil, ReVamp. Older stuff you might find is Floor Jansen's previous band After Forever or if you like concept albums the three from Mortal Love.
